Thoughtful and compassionate counseling with you in mind.

Therapist Amber Wonder

I have had a winding road to create a life that makes sense for me, and I know what it is like to feel deeply that there must be something more. More genuine. More meaningful. More authentically you, without whatever is getting in the way. I specialize in helping people build resilience, mental agility, and greater assurance in their ability to live a value-driven life. I use a holistic approach to therapeutic interventions, and I am a trauma-informed and sex-positive counselor. My style is warm, curious and engaging, and I strive to connect with my clients on a genuine human level, embracing humor and authenticity in our sessions.

I highly value learning and have continued to seek out opportunities for learning and growing both in and out of the practice of counseling. I earned my graduate degree in Counseling from Arizona State University and my bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Northern Arizona University. Because of this combination, I am happy to recommend books on any number of topics. I am a registered Clinical Supervisor and have been providing guidance to new therapists for over 12 years. I have also completed specialized training in numerous areas, including certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma processing and training in the Gottman Method for relationship therapies. I utilize EMDR in working with clients to process past trauma and emotional pain in a manner that honors the complexity of each person’s internal experience. This process also encourages focus on expanding healthy coping skills, gaining personal insight and releasing those perceptions of self and the world that make us feel “stuck.” The Gottman Method is an approach to relationship therapy that focuses on addressing conflict effectively, increasing client’s intimacy and communication skills, and building upon the shared meaning in relationships.

On a personal note, I am originally from California and have lived in over 10 different cities in various states across the country, including Florida, New Mexico, Kentucky and New York, and now happily reside in Arizona. When not practicing therapy, I love to read outside, find new recipes that I sometimes make, and enjoy quality time with my significant other and our dogs. I feel the most myself when engaging in new experiences, whether trying new restaurants, searching out new music and art, or spending time immersed in other countries and cultures. I look forward to meeting you.
