Feeling Anxious and Treatment

Do you ever feel that your mind has a mind of it’s own?

Racing thoughts, constant worry, and a sense of impending doom might have taken up residence in your daily life. Anxiety is more than just feeling stressed or overwhelmed— it can take over your mental, emotional, and physical well-being, leaving you exhausted and unsure how to break free. The good news? You don’t have to live this way.

I take a holistic approach to helping individuals understand and find relief from anxiety. Whether your anxiety feels like a nagging companion or an overwhelming force, you’ve taken the first step by being here. I use an integrated approach of evidence-based techniques which work together to address the root cause of anxiety, break unhelpful cycles, and build resilience. If you’re seeking relief from anxiety and tools to thrive, you’ve come to the right place.

From our first session, my goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel understood and valued. Here’s what the process typically looks like:

1. Assessment and Goal Setting: When we work together, the first step is getting to know your story. We’ll explore what’s been happening, where you feel stuck, and what you hope to achieve. From there, we’ll create a personalized plan that feels right for you.

2. Skill Building: Therapy frequently starts with learning practical tools to help you manage symptoms and feel more grounded. You’ll learn strategies to navigate everyday stressors.

3. Deep Work: When past experiences are part of the picture of your anxiety, we’ll uncover and address the root causes of your anxiety, fostering lasting change.

4. Ongoing Support: Throughout the process, I’ll provide ongoing support, adjusting our approach as needed to ensure it fits your evolving needs.

Whether your anxiety feels like a small, persistent hum or a thunderstorm that takes over, therapy can help you find relief and regain balance and joy in your life.

What Does Anxiety Look Like?

Anxiety doesn’t always show up in obvious ways. For some, it’s more physical: a racing heart, shallow breathing, tight shoulders, or that “butterflies in your stomach” feeling that’s anything but pleasant. For others, it’s emotional—like feeling overwhelmed, irritable, or stuck in a loop of dread or self-doubt.

Then there are the patterns. Maybe you find yourself procrastinating, avoiding situations, or getting caught up in the perfectionism trap, constantly striving to get everything just right. And don’t forget the mental chatter—constant worrying about every “what if,” catastrophizing, or that inner critic who just won’t stop talking.

Some days, these symptoms might come in waves, triggered by specific situations. Other times, anxiety feels like a constant background noise you can’t turn off. However it shows up, it’s draining—and you don’t have to keep living this way.

Anxiety Treatment Can Help.

Anxiety is treatable, and you don’t have to face it alone. I bring over 16 years of experience and a genuine passion for helping individuals overcome anxiety. Anxiety thrives on feeling out of control. Therapy is about taking that control back. You deserve treatment that focuses on the needs of the whole person—not just the symptoms. My approach to therapy ensures that we address not only the symptoms, but also the deeper layers of what’s fueling your anxiety. Together, we’ll create a toolkit of skills and insights, so you can feel confident navigating whatever life tosses your way.

My integrated approach to therapy is designed to meet your unique needs, offering both immediate relief and long-term strategies for managing anxiety. Using evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization (EMDR) and Mindfulness, we’ll address the root causes of your anxiety while giving you tools to thrive. In addition, we will focus on the skills and strengths you already have—because yes, even in the middle of anxiety, you have them. We’ll build on these strengths to help you face challenges, recognize your resilience, and cultivate hope for the future.

Each approach offers unique benefits that can help you better manage anxiety:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps untangle the unhelpful thought patterns that fuel anxiety. Together we’ll work on gaining awareness and reshaping those thoughts that keep anxiety going. You’ll gain practical skills to build insight, resilience and confidence. The goal? To approach life with a clearer, more balanced perspective.

Sometimes anxiety can have deep roots in past experiences. EMDR is a powerful therapeutic approach that helps to process unresolved trauma or distressing memories that may be contributing to your anxiety. I utilize a specialized method which combines Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR to reduce the emotional intensity of these memories and build a more compassionate relationship with yourself. By doing so, you can work to break free from recurring triggers, reclaim a sense of control, and experience a calmer, more grounded present.

Mindfulness brings a sense of presence and calm to your day-to-day life. Through mindfulness techniques, you’ll learn how to anchor yourself in the moment, quiet the mental chatter, and respond to anxiety with curiosity rather than fear. Mindfulness is a powerful way to build inner peace and resilience over time.

Anxiety might make you feel powerless, but trust me, you’re a lot stronger than you think.

 FAQs About Anxiety and Therapy

  • Anxiety can stem from a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. Stressful life events, unresolved trauma, or even biological predispositions can contribute to its development.

  • The length of treatment varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some people experience significant relief within a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term therapy to address deeper issues.

  • While anxiety may not always disappear entirely, therapy can equip you with the tools to manage it effectively, reduce its impact, and live a fulfilling life.

  • If anxiety is interfering with your daily life, relationships, or overall well-being, therapy can be a valuable resource. Even if your symptoms feel manageable, therapy can help you develop healthier coping strategies and improve your quality of life.

  • Medication can be helpful for some individuals, but it’s not always necessary. Many people find that therapy alone provides significant relief. I do not prescribe medication; however, if you are interested in pursuing medication to help manage your anxiety, I can refer you to a colleague in the community to do an evaluation and prescribe medication as a supplement to therapy. If you already have a medication provider, I will collaborate with them to ensure a comprehensive approach.
